Brief review of nutrition and cancer:
In the last 20 years, a lot of research has gone into studying cancer and its relationship with nutrition. Hundreds of epidemiological studies have been conducted around the world by different research entities to study general dietary habits and their relationship, if any, with cancer. After substantial studies, a certain strong trend is beginning to emerge and that is the trend that people who consume a lot of Brassica vegetables (such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale and Brussel Sprouts) have a significantly lower incidence of cancer than those who do not, much more so than any data present regarding a general fruit and vegetable consumption.
For example, in a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, biomedical investigators found that high Brassica vegetable intake was inversely related to breast cancer development. The relative risk among women in the highest decile of Brassica vegetable consumption (median, 1.5 servings per day) compared to the lowest decile (virtually no consumption) was 58%. That is women who consumed the most Brassica vegetables were 58% less likely to develop breast cancer. (Terry P, Wolk A, Persson I, Magnusson C, Brassica Vegetables and Breast Cancer Risk (2001). In a study published by the National Cancer Institute just last week, biomedical investigators have confirmed that men who consumed a lot of cauliflower and broccoli reduced their risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer by 48 to 52%.

“Several studies have shown a link between eating vegetables and a reduced risk of prostate cancer, but results have not been consistent and many have not specifically looked at deadly forms of the disease. A team from the US National Cancer Institute and Cancer Care Ontario in Toronto carried out food questionnaires in a group of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer in a large screening trial. Overall, they found that eating fruits and vegetables was not associated with decreased prostate cancer risk. But greater consumption of dark green and cruciferous vegetables, especially broccoli and cauliflower, was associated with a decreased risk of aggressive prostate cancer. A weekly serving of cauliflower was associated with 52% decreased risk of aggressive disease and similar amounts of broccoli cut the risk by 45%.”

I think any type of nutritional information is great! I went on a strict green foods/vegeterian diet as soon as I was diagnosed with cancer. I believe the diet gave my immune system the nutrition it needed to fight cancer. Look at www.ultimateliving.com I take Green Miracle, Aloe Papaya, Ionic Trace Minerals, and COQ10. Dr. Cooper, a local Dallasite and founder of the famed Aerobics Center, really promotes COQ10 as a terrific supplement. Also, you can look up Dr. Johanna Budwig and the FLAX Oil diet. I still take a large dose of flax oil daily. There are many alternative remedies that I believe work!
Please read my blog called neutriceutical offering. DIM is in there so is flax seed oil. DIM has been shown to promote cancer as well as fight it. I would not take it. I was also doing the Budwig diet until I found out that ALA (alpha linolinic acid)is a plant estrogen (as is soy) which can act as estrogen and also promote cancer. You shouldn’t take phyto estrogens. Take cod liver oil (yum) to get your omega 3 fatty acids.
